Timesheet software records how many hours each person worked, on which day, and on what. Instead of typing hours into a sheet on Friday from memory, people track time as they work, against a client, project or task. Managers check the hours, approve corrections, and use the totals to plan work, check project costs and keep attendance records.
Most timesheet tools capture time in one of three ways:
A shared spreadsheet works for a small team. It gets harder once you're chasing sheets every week, fixing project names typed three different ways, and adding up totals by hand.
| Spreadsheet timesheet | Trakkar | |
|---|---|---|
| How hours get in | Typed in by each person, often from memory | Tracked against projects and tasks in the desktop app |
| Fixing mistakes | Anyone with access edits the cell | Time correction request, approved by a manager |
| Attendance and leave | A separate register or sheet | In the same tool, with one approval queue |
| Hours by project | Totals you add up yourself | Grouped by project and task as you track |
| Project cost | Worked out by hand | Cost to date and margin in the Project margins view |
| Price | Free | ₹120/user/month + GST |

The Android and iOS apps handle clock-in, clock-out and leave requests. They are not a general task timer, but on Android, tasks set to Field mode run a GPS timer for work done on site. Screenshots are optional, and screenshots and app usage tracking are desktop only.
Work is planned on a Kanban board with your own status columns, or on a timeline (Gantt-style) view of tasks by project. An async daily standup fills in from yesterday's tasks and time, with blockers and nudges, so everyone stays up to date without a morning call.
Set an hourly cost for each person, with effective dates, and a project rate where it differs. For each project, enter its fixed contract value. The Project margins view shows value, cost to date, profit and margin, with a health badge: On track, Margin thin, Loss or No value set. Cost is each session's hours multiplied by that day's cost rate, with overtime multiplied too. You can download the table to Excel. Budget burn is tracked in hours.
